Ancient Corinth - Canal Crossing. Tour highlights:
|
|
We leave Athens toward to Corinth canal. Arrival after crossing the industrial zone of Eleusis for a short stop to take some photos and admire this amazing construction, consisting of an artificial cut of 6,3 Km. large, constructed between 1881 & 1893. The channel unites the Aegean with the Ionian Sea. Depart to the ancient Corinth.
We visit locally the Archaeological finds of the ancient city, very important since the very remote antiquity. The canal has been a very important source of richness and politic power up to the arrival of Romans, then passed under their domain and after the Roman period passed to the Christians hands, where they destroyed any testimony of anterior cultures imposing the Christian style with new churches.
During this period Paul visited the city and stayed there around 2 years. After visits we realize a canal crossing with the special boat and return back to Athens, arriving at lunch time.
(For those lovers of the adventure and the adrenaline, we offer the option of Bangy-jumping, from a bridge of the canal…unique experience!!!)
